KKR vs SRH: In the first qualifier match of IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets. This match is from Ahmedabad Narendra Modi Played in the stadium. With this victory, KKR has become the first team to reach the finals. Hyderabad is the same team which scored the highest score in the history of the Indian Premier League by scoring 287 runs in the current season. It is also worth noting that SRH had not yet been all-out in IPL 2024, but Kolkata bowled them out for only 159 runs. Know here due to which three reasons Hyderabad had to face defeat.
Top order failed miserably
The pair of Sunrisers Hyderabad opening batsmen Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were wreaking havoc on the bowlers till now. This is the same pair whose explosive batting had crossed the 100-run mark within 6 overs. If Hyderabad had to reach a big score then it was necessary for Abhishek and Head to play. In the qualifier match, Head was out on the very second ball of his innings on the score of zero. On the other hand, Abhishek was able to score 3 runs in 4 balls. Head has scored 533 runs and Abhishek has scored 470 runs in the season. But when the team needed them the most, both the opening batsmen could not take up the responsibility.
Playing only attacking, not having plan B
Till now SRH had been dominating the opposition teams in IPL 2024 due to their attacking game. But in an important match like the qualifiers, the players needed to play responsibly. Especially Shahbaz Ahmed and Nitish Reddy had become very defensive. At one time, 6 wickets of the team had fallen, then Pat Cummins and Abdul Samad were standing at the crease. Samad looked in good touch and since there was no regular batsman after him in the line-up, he should have batted cautiously while supporting Cummins. When Samad was out, there were more than 5 overs left in the innings. Although captain Cummins stood firm till the last over and scored 30 runs, but had Samad supported him, SRH could have reached the score of 180 instead of 159.
Bad captaincy, bad selection of playing XI
Till now, Pat Cummins had been making important contributions to the victory of Sunrisers Hyderabad by taking bold decisions. But he made a big mistake in the match against KKR. There was no regular spin bowler in the playing eleven of SRH, due to which the team was completely dependent on fast bowling. Due to this, Travis Head also had to bowl, who gave away 32 runs in 10 balls. The impact player was also selected very poorly. When Hyderabad was struggling in batting, Abhishek Sharma was replaced by Sanveer Singh. Sanveer was bowled on the very first ball. Washington Sundar could have been a better option than Sanveer, who has experience of batting in pressure situations and is also capable of hitting big shots.
